Rebuilt stairs leading up to the observation deck.
The observation deck is made primarily of welded 16 gauge 1x2 and 1x1 box steel . Is very strong! To support the hundreds who will certainly clamber on top of the mutantvehicle I have built an internal support structure comprised of a few ribs with short attachment pegs extending through the roof. The upper deck is approximately eighteen feet long by six feet wide yielding over one hundred square feet on which we can all party.
See the image gallery for specific construction notes.

(And cutting and stuff.)
The internal rib structure. Not finished in the picture, of course, but the preliminary results are promising. The pegs extending through the roof. I destroyed two spade bits before learning that "metal hole saws" existed. They work so much better! The first stage of the upper deck. 18' feet of 1x2 with numerous spacers and support struts. My welder ran out of wire when I had only 16 inches of joints left to weld so I had to set it aside while I drove to the big hardware store in the suburbs. This is actually the rear of the mutantvehicle. A hinged stairway will fold down over the windshield and provide easy access to the observation deck.
